Myth-busting urban design
We’re here to challenge myths, inspire change, and learn how to better communicate urban change for cities that empower and connect us all.
About the research
Urban design has the power to reshape our cities—making them safer, healthier, and more vibrant for everyone. Imagine streetscapes that celebrate Māori culture, create welcoming spaces, and promote community wellbeing. Yet, these transformative designs often face pushback from businesses and the public, despite evidence showing that, once built, they bring real economic, social, and environmental benefits.
Our research programme, “Urban myth-takes”, is here to bridge that gap. By working closely with Māori knowledge, local communities, and key stakeholders, we’re exploring how urban initiatives are (and can be better) communicated and understood. Together, we aim to break down barriers, foster understanding, and help build cities that truly connect us all.
